Unless Congress acts during the post-election session before January, automatic funding cuts totaling nearly $2 billion could be applied to federal transportation-related programs for fiscal year 2013. In addition, taxes will go up for many Americans, and another roughly $108 billion will be cut from other defense and non-defense discretionary programs in fiscal year 2013.
