Intelligent Transportation Conference Tweets, Day Three

All-time best ITS traffic information sign?

I spent a few days last week mingling with thousands and thousands of transportation professionals from all over the world at the Intelligent Transportation World Congress. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is simply just using electronics, computers and communications to move people and goods faster, safer, and cleaner.

Below are the tweets I sent from the sessions I attended on Thursday in order of last sent.  See Tuesday’s tweets, and Wednesday’s tweets.

  • Variable tolling causes many ppl to rethink departure time, route, & mode. Enuf ppl make changes=reduces congstion
  • Re last tweet, those traveler benefits will b precluded by WA State’s I-1125 which would outlaw variable tolling #No1125
  • Learning abt many variable tolling projects in world that are reducing/smoothing out congestion, cutting emissions #ITSWC11
  • Sitting in on “Potential consequences (unintended and intended) of pricing” e.g. Rollins #ITSWC11
  • Alt fuels (esp in freight), changing driver behavior (switch to transit) where possble can do more to cut emissions #ITSWC11
  • Disappointed to learn many system efficiency imprvmnts don’t = signfcnt emissions reductions. Research ongoing. #ITSWC11
  • Sounds like Europe way ahead of US in using ITS & telematics, to reduce emissions, fuel consumption #ITSWC11
  • Much emissions come from start/stop – esp trucks. Signals synching, EVs & other alt fuels can really help. #ITSWC11
  • Sitting in on “Traffic Mgmt to Reduce Emissions – Lessons Learned” #ITSWC11
