House Transportation Chair John Mica intends to release text of the “American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs” act perhaps as soon as Friday. Action is tentatively scheduled for February 2. This would put the bill on a glide path to be debated and passed by the House probably by the end of February. Politico reports the bill would likely come in at $260 billion ($52 billion per year). The Senate has yet to release any information about its schedule.
As expected, the House bill proposed some big changes (5 Big Proposed Changes in the New House Transportation Bill Proposal) including environmental streamlining (New House Transportation Proposal Would Reform Project Environmental Review), and reduces and reforms Amtrak (House Transportation Proposal Would Cut Amtrak Funds, Implement Reforms).
