$7.7 Billion Cut In Transportation/Housing Funding Advances

The House Budget Committee this week issued the spending targets (“allocations”) for appropriations committees.  The spending targets are based on the budget resolution the House passed on a party line vote a few weeks ago.

The allocation for Transportation and Housing funding is $47.655 billion – about 14% less than 2011′s funding level of $55.4 billion and about 36% less than the President’s proposal.

$ 47,655 – House proposal for 2012 Transportation/Housing spending

$74,712 – President’s 2012 proposal

$55,367 – Enacted 2011 budget

$67.9 – Enacted 2010 budget

The Transportation and Housing Subcommittee is scheduled to act on the budget on July

The good news: that budget is likely the worse case scenario and unlikely to become law.  The Senate and White House will fight for a higher spending level.

The bad news: the 2012 final budget could very likely be a lot closer to the proposal, not the 2011 funding level.  The final spending level will have a significantly negative impact on expanding and maintaining the transportation network.  And

What ‘s the impact on transportation only, and by mode – highways, transit, bike-ped, ferries? The Subcommittee will determine that when it meets on July 14th.  The full committee is scheduled to act on July 26.
